Poster, Serie No II: Nordic Forests
Wood pasture is one of the oldest land-use practices in human history, it is a cultural landscape that combine scattered trees, grasslands and grazing animals. In Sweden, wood-pastures are traditionally important habitats for the livelihoods of rural people, and are used for animal husbandry and haymaking.
Wood-pastures are valuable habitats for many red-listed beetles, butterflies and lichen species that are associated to old sunexposed oak trees. The best preserved oak wood-pastures in Sweden occur in Östergötland County where they cover around 180 km2 as scattered small patches.
